If you ever stop to think about it, airplanes are pretty damn cool. The fact that an 800,000 pound piece of metal hurling through the air at hundreds of miles an hour can safely transport hundreds of people across the world is quite an incredible thought.
On January 1st, 1914 the first commercial flight took off from St. Petersburg, Florida and landed only a few miles away in Tampa Bay, Florida 23 minutes later. Fast forward a little more than 100 years and you can now take the longest non-stop flight in the world from Newark, New Jersey directly to Singapore in a "mere" 17 hours.
If you're anything like me, with all the recent hubbub around airplane safety...
